CREW CareersTM: Building Opportunities® is a one day educational program for high school age girls introducing them to the various types of professions and challenges involved in commercial real estate. The goal of the program is to encourage the young women to consider pursuing one of these careers.
2012 CREW CAREERS
On Saturday, March 17, 2012, CREW Charlotte will present its
seventh annual CREW careers: Building Opportunities program. The
2012 program is titled Chasing The Many Shades of Green. This event will
take place in UNCC's
new Center City Building in uptown Charlotte. The focus is on recent
and future development of the surrounding First Ward and explore the many ways
that we pursue "green" in development.
2011 CREW CAREERS
On Saturday, May 14, 2011, CREW Charlotte presented its sixth annual CREW Careers™: Building Opportunities® program. The 2011 program used a modified version of the “This Old Building” format that CREW Charlotte pioneered in 2006, and was held in the VUE Charlotte Building. “This Old Building” challenges participants to work in teams to create a plan for an old building/property in the uptown Charlotte area that is in need of redevelopment. The twist in this year’s event, Project Girls for Green, was that the girls were challenged to “think green” and figure out sustainable ways to redevelop one of two (2) challenged buildings/properties just south of uptown Charlotte. The event was a great success!
2010 CREW CAREERS
CREW Charlotte hosted this program for the 5th time on March 6, 2010. CREW Charlotte partnered again with the Girl Scouts Hornet's Nest Council to bring this national program to the UNCC Uptown campus. The format of the program, titled "
Project Suite Space," was similar to the popular "
Project Runway" show. During the hard hat tour in downtown Charlotte on the morning of March 6th, the teams of girls visited the space inside a particular commercial building that they were later challenged to design, create, and sell. After a two-hour planning session, each team presented their ideas to a potential client. A panel of judges, comprised of civic leaders and prominent members of the local real estate community, chose the winning team based on commercial real estate knowledge, teamwork, and professionalism, with special awards given for artistic use of visual aids, innovative thinking, and public speaking.

2009 CREW CAREERS
In 2009, CREW Charlotte partnered with the Girl Scouts, Hornets' Nest Council and the Power of One to bring this national program to Central Piedmont Community College and the Elizabeth Avenue area. The interactive one-day program took girls of high school age on a guided tour of Elizabeth Avenue to learn about commercial real estate development and give them a hard hat tour of a recent redevelopment project in the area. CREW Careers helps introduce career opportunities in many facets of commercial real estate to 80 young women with this successful event.
